Symptoms of ADHD

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurological condition that affects both children and adults. The symptoms of ADHD can be classified into two categories: inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity.

Inattention symptoms may include:

  • Difficulty paying attention to details or making careless mistakes in schoolwork or other activities

  • Difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or activities

  • Being forgetful in daily activities

  • Avoiding or disliking tasks that require sustained mental effort

  • Difficulty organizing tasks and activities

  • Frequently losing items like keys, phones, or wallets

  • Hyperactivity and impulsivity symptoms may include:

  • Difficulty sitting still or remaining quiet for extended periods

  • Fidgeting or squirming while seated

  • Interrupting others or blurting out answers before questions are completed

  • Difficulty waiting for one's turn

  • Talking excessively or being unable to engage in quiet activities

It's important to note that everyone may experience some of these symptoms at some point in their lives. However, for a diagnosis of ADHD, these symptoms must be persistent and significantly interfere with daily functioning. If you suspect you or a loved one may have ADHD, I can help with diagnosis, treatment options, parenting support, and more. Please contact me today.
